Baby it’s cold outside! Not exactly my favorite weather, I will take a beach over snowy mountains any day. Sometimes though we cannot travel or it’s just too cold/wet to go out and play. We call these opportunities “Staycations”. Grab your loved ones and have a special day where you do something new and maybe a little “weird”. Here are some Staycation Holiday ideas to keep you cozy and warm:
Make Homemade Gifts: Here is a list of the Top Pinterest Ideas for Homemade Gifts. This list will give you some activity and a way to create affordable gifts for the holidays.
THEN-Get Creative With Your Wrapping: We LLYOV gifts wrapped in Maps, but here some other great Packaging Ideas for your homemade gifts from Sweet and Crafty.
Build A Fort: Grab some left over Christmas lights and fill your living room floor with pillows and cushions. Use sheets and a broom to create a teepee fort. String lights and claim your territory. “KING OF THE NORTH!”
Try A New Recipe: While the name of this site may be a little crass, I think we can all respect the sentiment. Reload for various ideas of what the fuck to have for dinner and try out some new recipes: What The Fuck Should I Make For Dinner
Have A Bonfire: Gather up a few pals and make or bring hot cocoa to your nearest outdoor fire pit. Bring a music player or instruments and play some holiday tunes. Have a sing along or just bask in the warmth of the holiday season.
Bring Treats To Your Neighbors: I make something I like to call Reindeer Poop or Christmas Crack (depending on the audience). Its easy to share and highly addictive. Make little bags and share with your friends, neighbors, mailmen or anyone that needs to have a little Holiday cheer.
Reindeer Food: Melt in a saucepan 1 cup Butter, 1 cup Nutella, 3/4 cup Semi Sweet Chocolate Chips, and 3/4 cup White Chocolate Chips. Stir till all is melted. Add 2/3 cup crushed Hazelnuts. Take off heat and allow to cool (5-10 minutes). Divide a 12 oz box of Corn Chex into two large ziplock bags. Pour chocolate mixture half and half into each bag over chex. Place 2-3 cups Powdered Sugar in each bag. Seal bags and shake till mixture is even not clumpy across all of the cereal. Tastes best the next day. Share with others…
Start Planning Your Summer Vacation: Make a collage from magazines or start a pintrest board with places you’d like to save up to visit. Then create a financial plan to make it happen. Make it a New Years resolution to save up to travel and see the world. Go online and start looking for deals on sites like Kayak and TripAdvsior. Get inspired by using our LLYOV Map to view stories of some of the wonderful places we have been.
Give A Little: Remember those in need during the holiday season. Grab a few friends and go make giving bags from your nearest dollar store or supermarket. Say you have 5 friends and each of you chip in $20 that’s 120 items! Giving bags can be great for shelters (human or animal). Grab things like socks, deodorants, soaps, canned foods, granola bars, dried nuts and fruits, toothpaste, baby wipes, tissues, shampoo shaving or sewing kits and blankets. For animal shelters bring dog or cat food, toys, litter, leashes, and new beds and carriers. Hand these out to people in need or deliver directly to your local shelters. I recently heard on the news that LA shelters were having a shortage of food this winter so let’s all chip in to make sure everyone has a meal and a little holiday cheer.
