Happy 2013 LLYOVer’s! We are pleased to bring you a little rundown on some of our favorite travel trends of 2013. January is a great time to start booking flights and taking advantage of great rates on hotels or just planning your budget for a little getaway at some point during the coming year. Here are some travel trends we expect to see in 2013:
Bike Share: Living in Los Angeles the popularity of bike culture is hard to ignore and now YOU can be a part of it wherever you travel. This Google Bike Share Map shows you the nearest location to get ridin’ on two wheels for free or low cost anywhere in the world! We hope to see more green cyclists on this map in the coming year!
Home Exchange: While we still delight in the use of sites like HomeAway and AirBnB we are finding that in this tough economy spending ANY money on lodging can be a deterrent from vacation. That’s where HomeExchange.com comes to the rescue! Why rent someone else’s home and leave your perfectly lovely abode empty while you travel? Home Exchange offers users the opportunity to share their home with the world and enjoy the excitement of swapping your home for another family’s home in a far away place! Totally an adventure, and what a great way to make new international friends!
Rest for the Weary: The Ostrich Pillow from Studio KG and the Travel Rest Pillow from High Gear Design are about to make your travel z’s a whole lot comfier. These pillows are changing the way travelers sleep on planes and public spaces. We find sleep to be a very important part of travel, so find a way to make the most of your rest this year while on the road.
Share A Jet: Private jets are no longer just for the rich and famous! For those of you looking for a more “fly” experience ShareAJetExchange.com offers users the experience of flying high class for half the price. Share a jet with someone else and get a group of friends together for an awesome private jet experience.
Dog Sitting: Taking the pup on vacation is always a top priority when possible, but certain countries and circumstances are just not right for a dog. While finding a sitter to stay in your home is ideal sometimes it’s just not an option. DogVacay.com is an awesome new website that helps owners connect with locals who board dogs in their homes. Read full reviews and recommendations from your community about the potential sitter. YOU can even sign up to become a sitter yourself! A great way to make a little extra $ towards your next big adventure.
AirPort Security: Let 2013 be the year you no longer wait in those super long security lines. GlobalEntry.gov and TSAPreCheck grant special expedited access at security gates to qualified travelers. You will need to pass a background check and have never done anything sketchy at an airport…duh. A little bit of paper work and you will save yourself some time and stress at the airport this year!
Pop Up Hotels: We LLYOV the idea of “pop up” anything! And we are definitely jumping on the bandwagon with The Pop Hotel. This Britain based group places luxury hotels in unexpected destinations for a short time. Defined as “glamping”, you can stay in a very swanky tent with full room service and all the perks of a hotel. We think this idea is fantastic and look forward to seeing more people take part in the evolution.
Group Travel and In-State Travel: With the climbing prices on flight tickets and airline “fees” we predict that 2013 will be a big year for finally taking that camping trip within your own state or getting a group together for a low cost trip with friends. We also encourage you to stay tuned about Camp LLYOV where we will be sharing some exciting news soon!
Airport XGames and Traveling Art: This last one is pretty funny/awesome depending on how you look at it. The MicroScooter is a carry-on luggage bag with a flip down scooter attached. Perfect for that last minute gate change or just having the BEST time while in the airport.
We have also noticed a huge surge in airport dance videos. Flash Mobs are SOOOOO 2012. Time to start making some serious art happen when you travel. We LLYOV this trend the most!
We hope you enjoyed our travel trends of 2013!
