The past is all around you in Palma, and it is a sin not to indulge in a little history whilst staying here. At the very least you must visit La Seu, the beautiful gothic cathedral that sits within the city and dates back to the 14th Century. Surrounding the cathedral are wonderfully preserved winding medieval streets with views over the Mediterranean. Also in the old quarter is the Almudaina Palace, built on the site of a Muslim fortress and housing a large number of historical artefacts.
Palma is famous for its art galleries, and those who enjoy the works or Dali and Miro will be in their element here as there is a permanent Dali exhibition in the city, and the preserved workshop and gallery of Joan Miro. There is also a fantastic exhibition and museum of Es Baluard, which is definitely worthy of a trip.
When you’re done with culture you can step back into the 21st Century with a spot of shopping in some of the city’s many and varied outlets. The big brands and designers live on Jaime III in incredibly luxurious boutiques. Bargain hunters can find some hidden gems however off the beaten track, in some of the smaller independent stores, safe in the knowledge that you’ll be the only one back home with a particular outfit.
