Low Country LLYOV

I regularly visit my home town to enjoy it’s many splendors and remind myself of how relaxing life can be. Sipping home-made sweet tea as I sit on the dock with my feet dangling in the salty water, I wonder if it’s possible for an outsider to enjoy this way of life. As the afternoon thunderstorms roll in over the inter-coastal waterways I ponder if the humidity and mosquitoes are just a barrier to keep the tourists from deciding to move in. Read more

Moving to your dream destination

Writer: Catie Kruse

Writer: Catie Kruse

Moving. Woof.

When this word crosses your informative lips, others respond with excitement, or curiosity. What the true response entails: stress, sweat and struggle. I, recently, picked up my entire life–born, raised and rooted in Nebraska for the last amazing 24 years—and re-settled it in Southern California. The façade of moving some where “exotic” in my mind, quickly faded as the planning process began to take place. Read more

Thanks to everyone that came out to support LLYOV! We raised a lot of money for Odanadi and had a blast getting to meet our readership and fellow LLYOVers. We hope to do something like this again soon. Let us know if you’d like to be involved.

How I Fell In LLYOV With Vence

Writer: Kayla

I have just come home from a trip that can best be described as “magical”. Upon planning my trip to the Côte d’Azur I assumed that most of my days would be filled with lounging on pebble beaches or hopefully a new friend’s yacht. When I arrived in Cannes I instantly felt that horrible instinctive feeling; “I’ve GOT to get OUT of here!”. This feeling often rumbles at the sight of too many tourists, over crowded beaches, and worst of all, over priced and mediocre food. Read more

Living in Venice, I’m around a lot of artists. Musicians, painters, poets, filmmakers, photographers, and many that do it all. I dabble in the world of creation so I feel like I can speak on behalf of artists when I say, “letting your art out is SCARY!” Read more

The Immeasurable Value of VACATION MIND.

When was the last time you heard someone say: “Oh MAN! I just had the most INCREDIBLE idea and PRODUCTIVE creative experience, while sitting at my computer after a long, hard day of trying & thinking & typing!

Or… “You know that PROBLEM I’ve been trying to solve?  The ANSWER totally came to me, like an EPIPHANY … while I was mindlessly checking my Twitter stream!”

Rustic Charm at Vila Ombak, Gili Trawangan Indonesia

Writer: Kayla

Whenever friends tell me that they are planning a trip to Bali I jump for joy at the opportunity to share with them the jewel of Indonesia- Gili Trawangan. Not to say that you should avoid Bali, but why limit yourself to one island? Gili Trawangan is an island only accessed by boat ideally from nearby Lombak. Read more

LLYOV Questionnaire: Matthew Montee

“Montee” as we like to call him, is the mysterious man of the neighborhood who comes baring gifts and goes before you’ve had time to say thank  you. He’s like a hologram, appearing just when you need him. He appeared one cold night at burning man and placed a Spirit Hood on my head making me feel both cool and warm at the same time, he appeared bedside after I got in a bad car accident with the best post surgery healers, he appeared the day of the Bon Iver show with 1 last ticket. The California Coast: Tawney’s 5 favorites

Writer: Tawney

Oh the California Coastline, it’s what dreams are made of. Sometimes I catch myself driving to Malibu, keeping an eye out for dolphins, with the wind in my hair, and the Beach Boys on Pandora. It’s so magnificently cliché.
