Living in Venice, I’m around a lot of artists. Musicians, painters, poets, filmmakers, photographers, and many that do it all. I dabble in the world of creation so I feel like I can speak on behalf of artists when I say, “letting your art out is SCARY!”
When was the last time you heard someone say: “Oh MAN! I just had the most INCREDIBLE idea and PRODUCTIVE creative experience, while sitting at my computer after a long, hard day of trying & thinking & typing!
Or… “You know that PROBLEM I’ve been trying to solve? The ANSWER totally came to me, like an EPIPHANY … while I was mindlessly checking my Twitter stream!”
Whenever friends tell me that they are planning a trip to Bali I jump for joy at the opportunity to share with them the jewel of Indonesia- Gili Trawangan. Not to say that you should avoid Bali, but why limit yourself to one island? Gili Trawangan is an island only accessed by boat ideally from nearby Lombak.
“Montee” as we like to call him, is the mysterious man of the neighborhood who comes baring gifts and goes before you’ve had time to say thank you. He’s like a hologram, appearing just when you need him. He appeared one cold night at burning man and placed a Spirit Hood on my head making me feel both cool and warm at the same time, he appeared bedside after I got in a bad car accident with the best post surgery healers, he appeared the day of the Bon Iver show with 1 last ticket.
Oh the California Coastline, it’s what dreams are made of. Sometimes I catch myself driving to Malibu, keeping an eye out for dolphins, with the wind in my hair, and the Beach Boys on Pandora. It’s so magnificently cliché.
Samantha Stollenwerck has shined a little light on some chilly places with these amazing stories on LLYOV so now it’s time for us to shine a little light on her! After all, it wasn’t that amazing smile that got her on her first adventure, but her incredible talent (well, the smile might of had something to do with it since it pairs so nicely with her heart of gold, but we’ll get to all that). Samantha has performed at legendary venues, played major music festivals, and toured with Ziggy Marley, Blues Traveler, and our friend G Love. Most recently she’s put out a video for her song “Knock on Wood” and this jam is jam packed with inspiring travel stills from the places she’s been in the past year.
I am a singer from Los Angeles and doing my best to take advantage of my lack of true life responsibilities in my 20’s. In the past 5 years, I have checked many things off my “bucket list” ranging from trips to Johannesburg and Paris, to Sky Diving and singing Chumbawumba at Karaoke. I began a tradition of adventure September 2 years ago where I do something new every day. Eat something new every meal. This september, I went the whole month without speaking… that was an adventure. But this Christmas, on a last minute whim, I was lucky enough to check a BIG one off. One that I can only assume is on most people’s list.
Happy 2013 LLYOVer’s! We are pleased to bring you a little rundown on some of our favorite travel trends of 2013. January is a great time to start booking flights and taking advantage of great rates on hotels or just planning your budget for a little getaway at some point during the coming year. Here are some travel trends we expect to see in 2013:
This is Alex Marshall. We met in India a few years ago. It’s quite possible she’s the sweetest character the world has ever known. But not only is she a sweetie, she’s doing “it”…. She is always traveling, she has a job that allows her to do so, she finds “home” wherever she’s adventuring and finds adventures whenever she’s “home”!
