This time last year I was in Costa Rica with Kayla and 4 other friends. We were sun kissed and smiling, packing ourselves into the main street of Montezuma to bring in 2011. Whenever I find myself in these epic situations I wonder how we actually pulled it off. Traveling over the holidays is so expensive, plus I have to get a few extra days off or travel horrible hours in order make the most of my vacation, which brings me to all the planning. Ugh. It’s so easy to just… stay home.
“2012 is the year for change!”, I keep hearing people say this. What does that mean? Is it the Mayan Calendar?, the 99%?, the Singularity? Regardless, I have felt a great deal of pressure with the coming of the new year. It’s a good pressure though! The kind of pot-about-to-boil-over-pressure, but it’s good news cause it’s ready! I’m ready! Oh the places we’ll go! What a wonderful time to explore the world and cultures around us! But where do I start? Goals?
My love affair began when my mom and dad met and fell in love on a hippy kibbutz (aka commune) in Israel in, 1973… A seed was planted and, A love story began:
In the last LLYOV New Music post I mentioned a friend who ran into my room to share the magic that is Into the Wild by LP, that friend is Robin. I met Robin a year ago, but it feels like I’ve known her for lifetimes. I could go on and on about my love for Robin and could confidently speak for everyone else that knows her.
Like a child collects dimes for the candy store I carefully kept my vacation days for the past 7 months. Saving the little 24 hour jewels that I would use to travel in the Winter and Spring of 2012. You can imagine my disappointment when last Wednesday my employer told me they would no longer need my services. LAID OFF! At Christmas?! You have to be fucking kidding me! How the H-E-DOUBLE-HOCKEY-STICKS Am I supposed to find a job right now?!
We see you watching us from all around the globe! Please become a part of our community. In the coming year LLYOV will be growing and having all kinds of new features. We want you all to be a part of it! Your posts will forever live on this site and be integrated into our new format (more on that soon). So, we know you have SOMETHING to share so join in on the fun! Tell us how your Live Like You’re On Vacation, or share a recent trip you took, or tell us about your upcoming Staycation!
It’s funny how sometimes you need the holiday season to tell you to give thanks. As we are now knee deep in the holly jolly time of year, it strikes me as funny and valid. All year long, stresses build up and peoples lives go on. Something about joining together at Thanksgiving and Christmas gets us all in this loving spirit. It goes right along with our whole theme of living like you’re on vacation. Maybe we should also be saying “live like it’s Thanksgiving”.
Morning Rituals: A Way To Bring Your Adventures Home OR Bring Your Home On Adventures:
I woke up this morning in Rhishikesh, India.
I stretched and yawned. Cracked my shoulders and neck… Brushed my teeth… Sat on the edge of my bed and played the handmade Tibetan bowl I bought last month, up north in Dharamshala (hometown of His Holiness the Dalai Lama)…
My initial reaction to couch surfing, like many with whom I’ve since shared the gift, was fear and disbelief: “So you just knock on some strangers door, they let you crash at their house and they don’t want anything from you?” It was worth a more comprehensive look.
