Like a child collects dimes for the candy store I carefully kept my vacation days for the past 7 months. Saving the little 24 hour jewels that I would use to travel in the Winter and Spring of 2012. You can imagine my disappointment when last Wednesday my employer told me they would no longer need my services. LAID OFF! At Christmas?! You have to be fucking kidding me! How the H-E-DOUBLE-HOCKEY-STICKS Am I supposed to find a job right now?!
Once upon a time I was married and lived in London, England. My husband and I came home to California for Thanksgiving as we always did. My parents were living in Carmel at the time in magical green house on a hill that overlooked the turquoise ocean and foggy Pebble Beach golf course. There was always a fire in the fireplace at my parents house because my mom hates the cold and because we are all vibe coordinators in my family… All about the ambiance, the music, the lighting and decor.

For many years I worked in palliative care. My patients were those who had gone home to die. Some incredibly special times were shared. But have you ever discovered that the camera with all your memories was suddenly missing? If you haven’t, let me tell you, it’s a pretty horrible feeling of helplessness and devastation.
Rain is rare in Israel, falling only during the winter months, and even then sometimes not so often. When the first rains fall, everyone goes crazy! No one knows what to do with themselves, and the streets completely clear out.
It’s funny how sometimes you need the holiday season to tell you to give thanks. As we are now knee deep in the holly jolly time of year, it strikes me as funny and valid. All year long, stresses build up and peoples lives go on. Something about joining together at Thanksgiving and Christmas gets us all in this loving spirit. It goes right along with our whole theme of living like you’re on vacation. Maybe we should also be saying “live like it’s Thanksgiving”.
If you spend all day in front of a computer it’s imperative that you take a few minutes to watch a good video once in awhile. It’s amazing how I can spend hours staring at an excel sheet or sifting through emails without taking a moment to smile, or blink for that matter. Thank God for youtube fulfilling all of my distraction desires. There are so many good ones, but here are my top 5 …. What are yours?
